Harford Hits Past Baseball

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team jumped out to an early lead in game one, but couldn't fend of visiting Harford in an NJCAA Region 20 doubleheader at Skip Brown Field Tuesday, falling to the Owls, 19-7 and 11-5.

Brian Connolly went 2-for-5 with three RBI on the day. Christian Murphy also collected two hits, scored a pair of runs, and drove in another. Nicholas Toskov crossed the plate five times and went 4-for-4 in stolen bases on the day.

After giving up a run in the top of the first, AACC answered back with four in the bottom of the frame on a pair of hits and two errors. Toskov came across in the second on a wild pitch to make it 5-1 in favor of the Riverhawks.

Harford plated two in the third on three hits, before erupting for 16 runs over the final three innings.

A two-run Harford home run to left tied up the game in the fifth, after which the Owls scored twice on wild pitches to take a 7-5 lead. They took advantage of a balk and an error to go with two hits to expand the lead to 11-5 in the sixth.

A bases-loaded walk and subsequent wild pitch sent two Riverhawks across with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but a wild seventh saw Harford plate eight more to walk away with the win.

Reliever Shane Emerson took the loss for AACC, as the Riverhawks used seven pitchers in the game.

The nightcap was called after six innings due to darkness, but the Owls never trailed in the game, leading 3-0 after two on four hits.

AACC totaled six hits in the game, and scored in the third through sixth innings, but couldn't catch up to the Owls.

Starter William D'Antoni took the loss for the Riverhawks, who used five different pitchers in the game.

AACC is back in action Friday at No. 9 Frederick for a 12 pm doubleheader.
