Baseball Snaps Skid, Splits with CSM

The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak in a split at College of Southern Maryland Friday. The Riverhawks won the opener, 12-1, before falling the nightcap, 7-6.

After a scoreless first two innings, the Riverhawks were able to pull together a spurt of 4 runs at the top of the 3rd inning thanks to Cam Rees bringing in Matt Johnson off of a single and Lennie Lehner hitting a double to bring in Rees and Daniel Stern. The Riverhawks never looked back and continued to tally on runs as another single by Rees in the fourth made it 5-0 in AACC's favor.

In the fifth inning, the Riverhawks scored seven runs thanks to hits by Brian Connolly and E.J Santana to bring in two runs, two hit by pitches along with two bases-loaded walks allowed four more runs. Then a sacrifice fly by John Alderman brought in Ian Adams for the seventh and final run.

The Riverhawks capitalized on 10 hits and 12 RBI to put together their third game scoring at least 10 runs with an all-around team performance leading the way.

AJ Zeak (2-2) earned the complete game in a win, allowing just one hit in five innings.

In the game two of the double header, College of Southern Maryland erased a one-run AACC lead in the sixth and held on for the one-run win.

The Hawks started out with a quick four-run lead in the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, AACC got on the board. After a bad throw to first, Zeak advanced to second as E.J Santana scored. Anne Arundel scored three more runs in the third inning to tie things up after a home run by Lennie Lehner. A single from Ian Adams brought in Daniel Stern to put AACC ahead in the fourth, 5-4.

After a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth, College of Southern Maryland retook the lead. The Hawks stranded AACC runners on first and second in the top of the seventh after a hit by E.J Santana brought in Cam Rees.

Six batters had hits on the day for the Riverhawks. Brian Connolly stole a pair of bases and Adams stole one.

The Riverhawks' next game will be a home doubleheader against CCBC Dundalk on Saturday, April 20.
