ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College's Riverhawk baseball season has come to an end. The 2017 team's last game came as an 11-10 loss against CCBC Essex in the Region XX NJCAA DII Tournament. The Riverhawks finished the season at 23-23 overall, and 14-10 for the conference.
It was a back and forth schedule for the Riverhawks, seemingly alternated W/L from contest to contest. As the season neared the end, the Riverhawks were able to pull off a sweep against Frederick Community College, not only their last regular-season home game but a conference/divisional game as well. With the win over Frederick, the Riverhawks improved their seeding as they headed into the Region XX tournament.
The first round of the tournament had the Riverhawks (No. 3 seed) facing the No. 7 seed Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland. With a major push late in the 8th inning, the Riverhawks triumphed over the Trojans, 12-4. The win advanced the Riverhawks to the semifinals.
After postponing a day due to weather, the Riverhawks' next match up was against the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville. Despite battling back from being down 5-0, the Riverhawks just could not break the barrier and ended up losing 5-4.
With the loss, the Riverhawks would face the loser of the other semifinal game: CCBC Essex. After a hard fought battle through 9 innings, the Riverhawks fell 11-10 to the Knights of CCBC Essex. With the loss, the Riverhawks finished 4th overall in the tournament. Matthew Semanick and Samuel Ryan would be credited with All-Tournament honors for their performances.
For his performances on the season, Dustin Gosnell was named to the All-Conference team with second team honors.
