Stanley Named MDJUCO Athletic Trainer of the Year

Anne Arundel Community College head athletic trainer Amber Stanley has been named the 2019-20 Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) Athletic Trainer of the Year. Stanley shares the honor with Tim Happel of Howard Community College.

The Maryland JUCO Athletic Trainer of the Year award was first introduced in the 2019-20 athletic season and is voted on by all athletic trainers within the Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference.

"It's an absolute honor to receive the athletic trainer of the year award along with Tim Happel of HCC in the award's inaugural year," said Stanley. "I love honoring athletic trainers for their dedication and hard work, and I'm excited Maryland JUCO has established this annual award."

Stanley joined the Riverhawks in 2016 after serving as athletic trainer to several high school athletic programs in central Maryland, including Archbishop Spalding and Southern High School in Anne Arundel County. She earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Elon University and a Master of Science in exercise sport science from Marshall University, where she spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. She has also worked with professional and semi-professional teams in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, including the Arbutus Big Red (Mason Dixon Football League) and the D.C. Current (Major League Ultimate).

"Amber is well deserving for this award," said Anne Arundel Athletic Director Duane Herr. "She not only provides the highest level of care and support to our student-athletes on a daily basis, but operates with the same level of care for our visiting opponents. Amber is a fantastic athletic trainer and we are very lucky to have her at AACC and in MDJUCO."

Stanley is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and serves as treasurer of the Maryland Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA).
