AACC Student-Athletes Named NJCAA All-Academic

ARNOLD, MD (July 10, 2020) -- The 2019-20 academic year presented unprecedented challenges to NJCAA student-athletes, but through determination and excellence in the classroom, 24 Anne Arundel Community College student-athletes representing 11 teams received NJCAA All-Academic recognition for achieving a GPA above 3.60. In addition, six Riverhawks teams were recognized as NJCAA All-Academic Teams for recording a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

AACC led Region XX with the most All-Academic Team selections. Women's Cross Country, Men's Soccer, Women's Lacrosse, and Softball all finished atop the Region XX rankings, with Women's Lacrosse finishing as just one of three teams nationwide to earn the award. Women's Soccer ranked second in the region, while Volleyball was one of five teams from Region XX to earn the recognition.

The Riverhawks placed four student-athletes on the First Team, 12 on the Second Team, and eight on the Third Team.

Nationwide 9,555 student-athletes garnered All-Academic recognition, while over 1,000 teams earned NJCAA All-Academic Team honors.

"NJCAA student-athletes proved that no obstacle is too difficult to overcome," stated NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker. "These difficulties pushed our student-athletes to the limit this year, but the opportunity to overcome these challenges presented itself and our student-athletes flourished academically. The association commends all individuals for their continued success on the playing surfaces and in the classrooms."

2,427 student-athletes garnered NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors. 3,043 student-athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team while 4,085 student-athletes received third team recognition.

The NJCAA has been annually recognizing the academic success of its student-athletes since 1983.
