Men's and Women's Basketball Tip Off Classic Tournament

YOUNGWOOD, PA – Anne Arundel Community College's men's & women's basketball teams traveled to Pennsylvania this past weekend for the Westmoreland County Community College Tip Off Classic.

 

The tournament ran two days (11/11-11/12) with four teams entered; Anne Arundel Community College, Lorain County Community College, Leigh Carbon Community College, and Westmoreland County Community College. 

 

The Riverhawks of the men and women's teams were flying high Friday evening after each claimed a victory over Lorain County Community College.  The women won 56-45, and the men won in overtime, 92-90.

 

Freshman Madison Cowan (Fort Meade, MD/James Hillhouse) led the Riverhawks with 16 points in the eleven-point win for the women's team. Freshman Alesha Moses (Laurel, MD/Old Mill) and sophomore Alexxis Evans (Millersville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each posted a double-double with Moses draining 13 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, while Evans recorded 13 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Sophomores Larry Stevenson (Charleston, SC/Sigonella), Anthony Frazier (Washington, DC/Arundel), and Marcus Dentley (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) combined to score 76 of the 92 points in the overtime win for the men's team.  Stevenson led with 31, Frazier had 17, and Dentley, with a double-double, had 28 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.

 

Day two of the Tip Off Classic brought upon losses for each team as the women fell 55-45, and the men 80-69 against Westmoreland County Community College.

 

Alexxis Evans posted 12 points, while Jasmine Wallace (Detroit, MI/Bladensburg) and Alesha Moses each recorded 9 points in the hard-fought loss for the women.

 

Dentley led for the men's team with 20 points and 6 rebounds in the 80-69 loss, while Frazier and Walter Tolliver (Parole, MD/Annapolis) each posted 10 points.

 

For their tournament performances, Alexxis Evans and Maddie Cowan were named to the All-Tournament Team for the women, while Larry Stevenson and Marcus Dentley were named to the All-Tournament for the men.

 

 
 
 

After the weekend events, the women's team is now 1-2, while the men are 2-2.  For their next match-up, both teams will travel to CCBC Dundalk on Wednesday November 16, 2016.  Tip-offs are scheduled for 5:00 pm for the women and 7:00 pm for the men.
