Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Butler, Howard

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team split a pair of games Saturday in a home tri-match. AACC first fell to defending regional champion Butler County Community College, 3-0, before defeating Howard Community College, 3-1. Butler defeated Howard, 3-0, in the third match of the day.

In the opening match, AACC saw the first set slip away then did not recover, falling 25-18, 25-16, and 25-19. Libero Tara Gabrielsen recorded 21 digs in the match, while Karen Bautista Carmona led the team with 11 kills on 17 attacks. She also posted three aces. Newcomer Alle Forbes paced the Riverhawks with three solo blocks.

AACC came out hot against Howard, winning the first set 25-13, before falling in the second, 25-15. In the third set, the Riverhawks outlasted the Dragons, 25-23, and cruised to a 25-11 fourth-set win. Bautista Carmona posted 18 kills and 15 digs in the match, while Gabrielsen led the team with 23 digs. Sylvia Frye produced eight aces, and Grace Lindemann recorded 16 assists. Overall, AACC had 21 aces in the match, also getting four from Forbes and three from Bautista Carmona.

AACC is back in action on Wednesday, September 18, hosting Delaware Tech in a 6 pm match.
