Game Notes

The Riverhawks had an unfortunate loss this past week (10/2), falling, 1-0, against their Regional, Conference, & Divisional opponent, Dragons of Howard Community College. Playing at home, the Riverhawks were looking to move up in the rankings with a win – but fell just short, as the Dragons' lone, header-goal in the first half would be enough for the victory.

The first half seemed to play well for the visiting Dragons, controlling possession for the majority of the time as well as out-shooting the Riverhawks 7-1. With the corner kick set up by the Dragons in the 30th minute, a well placed cross would allow a HCC player to head one past AACC goalkeeper Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD). Unable to respond, the first half would end with the Dragons leading 1-0 over the Riverhawks.

Now playing from behind, the Riverhawks began to work their offense and regain control, outshooting the Dragons 7-6. Despite their efforts, the Riverhawks would be unable to finish on net, as Howard would earn the match win, 1-0.

Plenty of opportunities for AACC, with two shots by Jenna Holthaus (Arnold, MD/Broadneck), and shots by Madeline Stevenson (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding), Ashley Sherwin (Odenton, MD/Arundel), Gabriell Keogh (Gambrills, MD/Arundel), Reyna Bocanegra (Severn, MD/North County), Angela Sararach (Crofton, MD/South River), and Aileen Rivera Cubero (San Antonio, TX/Old Mill) – so it will be interesting to see these teams face-off again if they were to meet in post-season play.
