Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season With Win at NOVA

ANNANDALE, VA – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 59-34 win at Northern Virginia Community College Monday evening. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Riverhawks (10-14).

Autumn Foster-Fields and Sarah Healy each had a double-double in the win, seeing Foster-Fields score 12 points to go with 11 rebounds and Healy pull down 24 boards to go wth 11 points and a pair of blocks. Sydney Woodland returned to the lineup with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists off the bench. Ruth Marshall finished just shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points in 23 minutes.

AACC led for almost the entire first quarter, but NOVA's 7 of 10 effort at the free throw line spurred the Nighthawks to an 11-10 lead at the horn. The Riverhawks jumped right back in the driver's seat in the second quarter, holding NOVA scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes while building up a six-point lead. AACC limited the Nighthawks to just four points in the frame while pouring in 21 points in the frame on eight of 20 shooting.

AACC held the Nighthawks scoreless in the last four-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter en route to a 27-point lead at the buzzer. The Riverhawks maintained the distance through the final frame despite being outscored, 13-11.

The Riverhawks outrebounded their hosts, 68-47 overall, and scored 22 second-chance points off of 30 offensive boards – 16 of which were nabbed by Healy.  AACC benefitted from 23 NOVA turnovers, generating 22 points of the Nighthawks' miscues. Despite committing 23 turnovers themselves, AACC allowed NOVA to score just 10 points off the errors.

AACC earned the number two seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament. The Riverhawks will face third seed BC3 in the semifinals at Westmoreland County Community College Saturday at 2 pm.
