Game Notes

A key injury would tell the story in this match-up as the Riverhawks leading scorer, Karley Haensler (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) went down early after injuring her foot. Haensler would play only 12 minutes but still managed 15 points for the Riverhawks. The Riverhawks would play over two quarters without a bench as AACC awaits the return of injured Aloni Quill who is now joined by Haensler on the IR.

Adding insult to injury, College of Southern Maryland (CSM) shot it well from behind the arc at 50%. They would use their three-point shooting to carry a 15 point lead into halftime.

While both teams posted their lowest scoring quarters in the 3rd and 4th the Riverhawks couldn't make up any ground and CSM coasted to an 84-52 victory, dropping AACC to 3-7 in the conference and dampening their conference tournament chances.

Despite losing Haensler, Marci Augustin (Upper Marlboro, MD/ Riverdale Baptist) managed to post a 5 assist night and added 12 points of her own, also grabbing 5 rebounds. Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) also had a solid game, earning a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. In true Lieb defensive fashion, she also earned 3 blocked shots and 2 steals. Continuing her second place dominance of the boards, Sarah Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) pulled down 20 rebounds. Caitlyn Stanbery (Chesapeake Beach, MD/ Northern) stepped in for the injured Haensler and netted 8 points, while grabbing 4 rebounds.

Up Next

The Riverhawks will travel to the NJCAA DII Region XX Dragons of Howard Community College on Wednesday, January 30. The Dragons are similarly matched with a 6-12 overall record and 2-7 mark in conference play; however, the injury to Haensler could be tough to overcome. Despite the news of no break to Haensler's foot, it is unclear when she may return. Live stats will be available for Wednesday night's game.
