Game Notes

The Riverhawks found themselves as the #5 seed of the 2017 NJCAA DIII Region/District Men's Soccer tournament, facing the #4 seeded Raptors of Montgomery College in a quarterfinal match-up this past Wednesday night (10/25). The Riverhawks would lose, 2-1, to the Raptors while playing at home - as Anne Arundel Community College serves as host for this year's tournament.

The first half kicked off strong for the Raptors, scoring quickly within the ninth minute of play. Struggling to get their offense in sync, the Riverhawks would allow another goal by Montgomery at the 28th minute of the first half. Although out shooting their opponent in the first (5-4), AACC would end the first half of the match down, 2-0.

Progressing the ball up field and creating scoring opportunities with some excellent crosses seemed to pick up the momentum for the Riverhawks late in the second half, giving hope to Riverhawk fans. Aggressive action in the box by Raptor goalkeeper would reward Ryan Gruss (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) with a PK in which he would capitalize on, ending the AACC scoring drought of the game.

Although now down by just 1, two minutes would prove to be not enough time for AACC to net that equalizing goal. Time would expire and the Raptors of Montgomery College would be awarded the quarterfinal victory.

Up Next

With the quarterfinal win, the Raptors will advance to one of the two semifinal match-ups; facing the #1 seeded Nighthawks of Northern Virginia Community College, scheduled for 6 pm on Friday (10/27) at the Siegert Stadium of Anne Arundel Community College.

With the loss, the 2017 Riverhawk men's soccer season has come to an end.
