Schwartz, Weller Climb Leaderboard at NJCAA DIII Golf Championship

CHAUTAUQUA, NY – Riverhawk golfers Luke Schwartz and Michael Weller continued play at the NJCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Tuesday at Chautauqua Golf Club. Despite rainy conditions and a lengthy weather delay mid-round, the pair posted tremendous scores in the second round of the national championship.

Schwartz shot two-over with 12 pars to take the tournament lead with 23 par holes. With the second-lowest score of the round (74), he climbed 12 spots on the overall individual leaderboard into a three-way tie for sixth at 153, three strokes off the lead. Among individual competitors, he stands second and one stroke back.

Weller cut 10 strokes off yesterday's score and shot a collegiate best 77 (+5). He was even on the back nine, played first in this round. Among individual golfers he stands in a tie for 12th place with a 164, 12 strokes behind the leader.

The pair teed off in the 10 am hour, and had completed five holes prior to the weather delay. The rain came in buckets and the golfers were called off the course for almost two hours. The groups got back on the course for a 2 pm restart, with Schwartz and Weller finishing under humid conditions around 5:30 pm.

Both golfers tee off at 10:20 am Thursday in Round 3, with Weller going off of the first tee and Schwartz off the 10th.
