Schwartz and Weller Open Play at NJCAA DIII Golf Championship

CHAUTAUQUA, NY – Anne Arundel Community College golfers Luke Schwartz and Michael Weller began play at the NJCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Tuesday. The pair Riverhawks golfers had a solid showing in the opening round as Schwartz finished four strokes behind the leader and Weller bested his first round score from his 2018 appearance.

Schwartz shot a 40 on the front nine and 39 on the back to finish with a 79 in his first appearance at Chautauqua Golf Course. He finished eighth among individual qualifiers and scored 11 pars during the sun-soaked first round – the second most among all participants.

Weller rallied from a tough front nine to cut three strokes off his score and finish with an 87 – two strokes better than his 2018 first round score. He closed out the day with four straight pars.

Schwartz and Weller continue Wednesday with second round play. Schwartz tees off at 10:20, and Weller tees off in the next group at 10:28. Both will start from the 10th tee.
