ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's men's basketball team fell short of reaching the DIII Region 20 Championship final, falling to Prince George's Community College, 83-76, on Saturday night in the semifinal matchup.
Entering the tournament at the number five seed, the Riverhawks claimed their first victory on Friday against the Wolfpack of Westmoreland County Community College. With the number one seeded Owls of Prince George's Community College as their next obstacle to reaching the finals, the Riverhawks battled hard for 40 minutes.
Marcus Dentley led the Riverhawks with 26 points, Wesley Bennett contributed 18 points, and Larry Stevenson posted 10 points. AACC shot 50% on the floor (30-60), 41.7% from beyond the arc (5-12), and shot 73.3% at the free-throw line (11-15).
It was some late, second-half scoring that allowed the Owls to pull away and help solidify their win. Patrick Johnson-Agwu scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half for the Owls, leading them with his total. Augustus Stone put up 23 points and Lavonte Sanders recorded 16 points.
It was a tough loss and unfortunate end for the Riverhawks as they competed well against the number one seed.
