Four Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA Academic Awards

Congratulations to four Pioneers who earned NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards in the 2014-15 academic year!

 

Ashley Wilkins (women’s soccer and cross country) earned the top Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, and Darek Davis (men’s lacrosse) Katrina Kyllander (volleyball) and Kelsey Wagner (cross country) earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

 According to the NJCAA in the 2014-15 academic year 58,531 student-athletes competed on 3,461 teams in 28 different sports, and a record 3.31 percent qualified for an academic award.  Student-athletes must have accumulated at least 45 semester credit hours or 60 quarter credit hours with a minimum of a 3.60 grade-point average to qualify for one of three awards designated by a range of grade-point averages.
 

Wilkins joins an elite group of 185 student-athletes in the nation this year that had the required 4.0 grade-point average for the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, another record number for the NJCAA. The Superior Academic Achievement Award had 741 qualifiers, and 1,110 earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

 

The awards and the qualifying grade-point averages are:

Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence: 4.0 GPA

Superior Academic Achievement Award: 3.80-3.99 GPA

Exemplary Academic Achievement Award: 3.60-3.79 GPA
