Game Notes

The Riverhawks hosted the 2018 DIII Region XX Championship match this past Saturday (10/27) with the unfortunate, 3-1, runner-up finish against the Pioneers of Butler County Community College.

SET 1: The visiting Pioneers opened the match strong, capitalizing on Riverhawk errors to quickly string points together. Eventually the Riverhawks would find their rhythm, but the early scoring for the Pioneers would be enough for them to ultimately claim the opening set, 25-17.

SET 2: Buliding upon the momentum the Riverhawks began to create late in the opening set, the Riverhawks took control during the second set and easily grabbed the win, 25-15.

SET 3: Now tied, 1-1, the two teams were in quite the battle for the Region XX title. The Pioneers would grab the lead of the tie-breaking set and despite the Riverhawk attempts, Butler would win the third set, 25-20.

SET 4: Down 2-1 in the match, this was a must-win set for the Riverhawks. Finishing as they opened, the Pioneers would once again defeat the Riverhawks 25-17 to claim the match victory, 3-1.

Brittney Guy (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 19 kills, 10 digs, and 3 service aces, Sylvia Frye (Severn, MD/Glen Burnie) had 8 kills, 6 digs, and 3 service aces, Kathryn Hawes (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 3 kills, 30 assists, 2 service aces, and 4 digs, and Serena Hochmuth (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 1 kill, and 23 digs. For their tournament performances - Guy, Hawes, and Hochmuth earned All-Tournament Team honors.
