Game Notes

The Riverhawks gave fans quite the excitement last week (10/4), defeating the NJCAA DII Region XX Knights of CCBC Essex, 3-2, at home in the Jenkins Gymnasium. Despite opening the night seemingly out of sync, AACC turned it around and pulled out a great team win.

SET 1: Multiple errors led the Riverhawks into some troubling territory as the Knights capitalized and quickly took a large lead during the opening set. Able to turn things around a bit, the Riverhawks began to cut the Knights lead and scoring drive down but it was just a bit too late as CCBC closed out set one, 25-17.

SET 2: The Riverhawks clearly utilized the three-minute intermission to re-group, displaying the talent and skill they've demonstrating in the past, jumping out on the Knights and taking control of the second set. The Knights would fight to string some points together but the new-found Riverhawk momentum would be strong enough for the 25-20 win.

SET 3: No change needed for the AACC strategy, taking set three 25-18, to put them up 2-1 for the match.

SET 4: Looking to keep the match going, the Knights were able to catch the Riverhawks off balance enough times to push play in their favor. As quick as AACC earned the 2-1 match lead, Essex had struck back to tie the match at two a piece with the 25-17 set four win.

SET 5: With everything down to the last set, the Riverhawks took control to earn their match victory. Responding well on their defense as well as powering their kills and serves, AACC claimed the match, winning set five, 15-10.

A leading hitter all season for the Riverhawks, Brittney Guy (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 17 kills, 3 digs, and 6 aces off the serve. Sylvia Frye (Severn, MD/Glen Burnie) had 7 kills, 16 digs, Kathryn Hawes (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 5 kills, and 26 assists, and Serena Hochmuth (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) finished with 14 digs.
