A Loss, A Win, A Hike

A Loss, A Win, A Hike

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's women's volleyball team split their weekend matches on the road, falling to Howard Community College on Friday, 3-0, before picking up a 3-1 win Saturday at Garrett College.

On Friday, the Riverhawks fell in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-8, 25-20.  Nicolette Powell (St. Augustine, FL/South River) led AACC with ten kills and thirteen digs, while Kathyrn Hawes (Arnold, MD/Broadneck) added twelve assists and seven digs.

On Saturday, the Riverhawks defeated Garrett College 3-1 with the sets: 17-25, 25-10, 25-14, and 25-14. Once again, Powell led with eight kills and sixteen digs. Emma Matheu (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and Emelyn Wilkerson (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) each added six kills and libero Heather Young (Grasonville, MD/St. Mary's) had thirteen digs.

The Riverhawks have had an impressive few weeks - winning four of their last six matches (three of which, were against DII teams), and also having Nicolette Powell earn NJCAA DIII Player of the Week but what is even more impressive is the camaraderie this team has had even when matches were not going in their favor. This is a team who has worked hard, stayed positive and continued to support each other despite losing their first seven matches of the season.

Just one of the examples of how this team builds and strengthens their bond is pictured below – a group outing; taking in the sights of Swallow Falls in Western Maryland.
