Women's Soccer Edges FIT, 2-1

COLUMBIA, MD – Led by two goals from sophomore Aileen Rivera-Cubero, the Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team defeated the Fashion Institute of Technology, 2-1, at Howard Community College's Dragon Tournament Saturday morning.

The teams were scoreless at the start of the second half, but each squad put a ball in the net in the opening five minutes to spark the action.

Gabrielle L'Insalata put FIT on the board in the 28th minute before AACC tied it up jut three minutes later.

AACC goalkeeper Sarah Ward cleared the ball out to center where Erika Jackson maneuvered it around a defender before tapping it to Sudy Choc-Ramirez, who was starting to move toward the attacking zone. Choc-Ramirez saw Rivera-Cubero making a break for it and pass the ball up and through for Rivera-Cubero to knot the game at 1-1.

Chloe Augustin lofted the ball ahead from midfield up to Rivera-Cubero on a break. Rivera-Cubero got the ball closing in on the 18-yard mark but was heavily defended by a member of FIT's back line. Rivera-Cubero maintained her composure while the defender tumbled to the ground before making a move around her and sliding the ball into the far corner for the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute.

Ward made nine saves in the win. FIT outshot AACC, 20-19. Each team earned eight corner kicks, with FIT drawing seven in the second half and AACC six in the first.

The Riverhawks face Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester Sunday morning at 11 am at Howard CC.
