No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Howard in Regular Season Finale

ARNOLD, MD – The No. 3 Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Howard Community College, 23-3, Tuesday evening at Siegert Stadium. The Riverhawks scored the first 12 goals of the game and saw seven players tally multiple-point efforts.

AACC (8-3, 4-2) was paced by four goals and four assists from Jordan Snyder and received five goals and an assist from Natalie Sonntag, who also corralled a career-high 14 draw controls. Lacey Hinkle added five goals, and the Riverhawks got three goals each from Bridgette Tayman and Mariah Scott.

Sonntag got the scoring started quickly, scoring in the first 16 seconds of the game on an unassisted tally off the draw. The Riverhawks added four more unassisted scores before Sonntag fed Tayman for the first of back-to-back scores. AACC then scored four more unassisted goals to hold a 12-0 lead with 11:47 left in the opening half.

Marielle Henriquez put the Dragons (1-9, 0-6) on the board with 7:48 left in the stanza with a free position shot, scoring on her team's first shot of the game.

Carrying a 15-1 lead into the second half, Tayman and Snyder each scored goals before Madison Altenburg scored on the Dragons' second shot of the game to make it 17-2 in favor of the home team. Maddie Reeser took a nifty feed from Noelle Dawson for the Dragons' third goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Riverhawks then closed out the game on a four-goal run.

AACC goalkeeper Sarah Healy made one second-half save on the Dragons' four total shots on goal. Howard keeper Brianna Bucksell made nine saves in the loss.

The Dragons committed 13 turnovers in the game, five of which were caused. Page Hamelryck caused a team-high two turnovers in the game. AACC turned the ball over eight times, six times caused by Howard, which saw Sandra Naylor and Madison Altenburg cause two each.

The Riverhawks earned the second seed in the NJCAA Region XX Championship and will face third seed CCBC Essex on Wednesday, May 8 at 1:30 pm at Howard CC. The winner will advance to the championship game to face either top seed Harford or fourth seed Howard on Saturday, May 11 at 3 pm.
