Game Notes

The Riverhawks dropped, 19-18, in the final seconds to No. 2 nationally ranked opponent – the Fighting Owls of Harford Community College this past Tuesday evening (3/27).

Hosting the highly anticipated match-up, the Fighting Owls would strike first – finding the goal after numerous up and down transitions for each team. Just minutes later, HCC would tack on another goal to claim a 2-0 lead over the Riverhawks after 9 minutes of play.

Capitalizing on a free position shot, Sofia Michael (Crofton, MD/Arundel) would put AACC on the board, and just a minute later – Mariah Scott (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) would finish on a free position shot of her own to tie the game at 2-2.

The first half would prove to be quite a contest for the two nationally ranked teams, with Harford Community College (2nd) leading 10-8 over AACC (4th) after the first thirty minutes.

Firing from the first whistle to start the second half, AACC's Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole (Severn, MD/Old Mill) and Angelina Horan (Lothian, MD/Calverton) would tie the game at 10-10 in just a 50 second window. The two teams would once again trade goals as the contest continued but the Riverhawks were able to string a few together, grabbing their largest lead of the game at 16-11, midway through the second half. Relentless effort and determination from each team resulted in a tie game (18-18) with just 3:30 remaining.

The Riverhawks fought to the end and peppered shots right to the remaining seconds but some quick action with a successful Hail Mary clear attempt, the Fighting Owls were able to net one more just as the clock expired – earning the 19-18 victory.

It was an incredible match-up that lived up to the hype. Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole put up an amazing 6 goals on the day, with Sofia Michael right behind her with 5 goals. Caitlyn Shriver (Pasadena, MD/Northeast), Madeline Szanyi (Mayo, MD) each had two goals on the day with 2 assists credited to Szanyi, and Emily Kane (Brooklyn Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding), Angelina Horan, and Mariah Scott each had 1 goal, with 2 assists credited to Horan.
