Women's Basketball Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Owls

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team's comeback bid against visiting Prince George's Community College fell short Saturday in a 75-63 loss at Jenkins Gym. Sarah Healy recorded a career-high eight blocks in the game to go with her ninth double-double of the season.

Healy poured in 23 points to go with a season-high 25 boards. Autumn Foster-Fields added 13 points and 10 rebounds in her fourth double-double of the year. Sydney Woodland scored 14 points to go with a team-high seven steals.

The Owls jumped out to a 14-2 lead over the first three and a half minutes, but the Riverhawks chipped away at it to cut the lead to just five points before 30 seconds ticked off the clock. A three-pointer from Woodland knotted the game, 17-17, with two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

AACC twice got to within three points in the second quarter, but Prince George's pulled away to take a 34-25 lead into the halftime.

The Riverhawks cut down a 15-point Owls lead to take their first lead of the game with .4 seconds left in the stanza on a Healy free throw, 49-48.

The lead was short-lived however, as the Owls used a 19-0 run to retake the lead then held the Riverhawks scoreless from the floor for almost seven minutes to claim control of the game.

AACC converted 32 Prince George's turnovers into 30 points, and led in second-chance points, 27-11. AACC turned the ball over 33 times, giving the Owls 26 free points.

The Riverhawks hit the road to face Frederick CC Wednesday, December 18th at 5 pm before closing out 2019 at home against Hocking CC on Thursday, December 19th at 5 pm.
