Game Notes

The Riverhawks struggled in their 90-41 loss to the Skipjacks of Chesapeake College this past Wednesday night (1/9). The NJCAA DII Region XX Skipjacks entered the contest undefeated in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) and improve to 6-0 (11-2 overall) with their victory.

The conference match-up kicked off with each team showing solid performances, but the range of the Skipjacks gave them a powerful advantage. Sinking six buckets from well beyond the arc and shooting 11-19 on the floor, Chesapeake found themselves ahead by thirteen (31-18) despite the Riverhawks' seemingly solid performance of the first quarter.

It would be an unlucky battle for the three remaining quarters for AACC, with their continued efforts to drive the lane resulting with unsucessful shots. Even as the Riverhawk defense held the Skipjacks to twelve points within the second quarter, production of the offensive only fashioned eight points in counter. Heading into the locker room at half time, Chespeake now led 43-26.

Second half action would resume in Chesapeake's favor, as a sensibly off-night for the Riverhawks contributed to unsuccessful attempts at the rim. Rounding out the night with only eight and seven points of the remaining two quarters, AACC would fall 90-41 against the Skipjacks of Chesapeake College.

Marcelaine Augustin (Upper Marlboro, MD/Riverdale Baptist) would finish with 15 points on the night, Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) with 8 points and 13 rebounds, Sarah Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) with 8 points and 11 rebounds and Lacey Hinkle (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
