Game Notes

The Riverhawks picked up a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) win this past Sunday afternoon (1/6), defeating the NJCAA DII Lakers of Garrett College 80-68. Playing at home, the conference match-up was held within the Jenkins Gymnasium of the Anne Arundel Community College campus in Arnold, MD.

Despite some early lead changes, the Riverhwaks were able to pull away with some quality shots from the floor. Burying some shots beyond the arc (3-4), AACC closed out the first quarter with a ten-point lead over the Lakers (27-17). The second quarter would equally finish as a low for the two teams, struggling to find the rhythms exhibiting during the first. Although scoring low, the Riverhawks still maintained the slight advantage (14-11) and increase their lead to thirteen points at the half (41-28).

The Lakers would switch gears in the second half, scoring 20 points for each the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Riverhawks would struggle a bit from the floor during the Garrett transitional improvement, but would sharpen back up to maintain control in the 4th. Shooting 38.6% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc in comparison to the Lakers' 31.6% and 10.5%, the Riverhawks would earn the conference win 80-68.

Karley Haensler (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) would post a double-double on the night with 20 points and 14 rebounds as she is now ranked 3rd in the conference for her 3-point percentage (42.5). Lacey Hinkle (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) would score her season high of 18 points while grabbing 7 rebounds, Marcelaine Augustin (Upper Marlboro, MD/Riverdale Baptist) would finish with 15 points and 8 assists, Sarah Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) would also post a double-double with her 11 points while grabbing an impressive 20 rebounds as she is now ranked 2nd in the conference for rebounds per game (16.2), and Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) would also break double digits hitting 10 points on the night.
