Game Notes

The Riverhawks started the New Year with a, 102-59, loss against tough opponent Hurricanes from Louisburg College Friday night (1/4), hosted at home in the Jenkins Gymnasium of AACC. The NJCAA DII Hurricanes from North Carolina out of Region X entered the contest with a 9-2 record, with wins against some impressive teams.

First quarter action ended promising for AACC, keeping pace with the Hurricanes on either end of the court. With seemingly even finishes at the hoop, the Riverhawks trailed by just 4 points (20-16) as the first ten minutes expired. The second quarter began to show the Hurricanes true ability to finish, shooting 11-16 from the floor as the Riverhawks slipped off shooting 5-17 from the floor. As the two teams headed to the locker room, the Hurricanes had given themselves a comfortable 19-point lead (48-29) over the Riverhawks.

The third quarter, unfortunately for the Riverhawks, was a continuation of the Hurricane offensive scoring ability – putting up their highest quarter score yet of 33 points. Shooting 14-23 from the floor, 3-4 from beyond the arc, while out rebounding the Riverhawks 13-3, Louisburg pulled even further away as they now led 81-40.

All hope and effort were not lost by the Riverhawks, who pushed their play in the remaining fourth quarter. Finishing more quality shots and regaining some control on the boards, AACC scored their highest of the game (19). Despite holding the Hurricanes to 21 in the fourth, the margin Louisburg had created throughout the contest proved too large for a Riverhawk comeback. Louisburg would pick up the win, 102-59.

Karley Haensler (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) would finish with 16 points on the night, Marcelaine Augustin (Upper Marlboro, MD/Riverdale Baptist) with 14 points, Aloni Quille (Odenton, MD/Arundel) with 11 points, and Sarah Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
