Game Notes

The Riverhawks exhibited a great team win at home this past Saturday afternoon (12/15), defeating the NJCAA DIII Region XX Pioneers, 71-61. Four Riverhawks would hit double digit scoring – three of which, posting a double double for the divisional match-up.

The first quarter had both teams showing range early with aggressive shooting from beyond the three-point arc. The Pioneers of Butler shooting 4-6, and the Riverhawks 5-7. Karley Haensler (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) and Aloni Quille (Odenton, MD/Arundel) would each shoot 2-2 to contribute four of those deep-range buckets. As the first quarter expired, the Riverhawks would have the slight advantage, 21-18.

Able to stay consistent in their offensive drive, the Riverhawks were able to create some space from Butler, holding the Pioneers to 13 points for the second quarter. AACC would take an eight-point lead (39-31) as the teams headed to halftime.

Picking up right where they left off, the Riverhawks continued to finish at the rim scoring 20 points in the third quarter. Haensler would lead the drive with 8 points, as Quille and Sarah Healy (Davidsonville, MD/South River) each had 4 points. Struggling against the AACC defense, the Piooners would finish with just ten points for the third quarter giving the Riverhawks a 59-41 lead heading into the final ten minutes of play.

With their final efforts, the Pioneers were able to respond with their largest scoring effort for the game (20 points), but would fall short in the end – the Riverhawks would earn the Divisional & Regional win, 71-61.

As Karley Haensler would finish 22 points and 8 rebounds, three of her fellow Riverhawks would follow with a double double on the day; Aloni Quille with 15 points and 13 rebounds, Sarah Healey with 14 points and 16 rebounds, and Marcelaine Augustin (Upper Marlboro, MD/Riverdale Baptist) with 12 points and 10 assists.
