Game Notes

The Riverhawks started off the New Year with a conference and regional win this Friday evening (1/5/2018), defeating the NJCAA DIII Region XX Owls of Prince George's Community College 79-63.

The Owls would score first with a deep three-pointer to start the game off but the two teams would trade off the lead as the minutes pressed on. Edging out the Owls to gain the lead, the Riverhawks would hold themselves ahead by 1 (14-13) as time expired in the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, the Owls would once again lead out by netting a bucket from beyond the arc – but the Riverhawks would quickly swing the momentum back in their favor. Autumn Foster-Fields (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) would continue on to score 12 points throughout the second quarter and as the teams headed to the locker room at half, AACC had outscored PGCC 22-13, giving them the lead, 36-26.

The third quarter would play-out in similar fashion to the second as the Riverhawks scored 24 to the Owls' 14. This time leading the way for the Riverhawks was Daja Burnett (Arnold, MD/Severna Park) with 16 points for the third.

The Owls of Prince George's Community College would fight to the end, putting up their strongest quarter with 23 points and even outscored the Riverhawks who put up 19. With too many missed 3 pointers (4-26) and the Riverhawk offense capitalizing on fast breaks, the Owls just couldn't get it done, as the Riverhawks went on to earn the 79-63 win.

Burnett would finish scoring her season high with a double-double – 33 points and 10 rebounds. Foster-Fields would also end the night with a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Just shy of a double-double herself, Jordan Graham (Severn, MD/Old Mill) finished the night with 9 points and 14 rebounds.
