Starting a two game winning streak, the Riverhawks defeated the NJCAA DIII Region XX Black Bears of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, 86-63, this past Monday Night (12/11).
A bit of a slow start for the Riverhawks, as a string of missed jump-shots allowed the Black Bears to claim a 16-13 lead after the first quarter of action. Re-setting their focus, the Riverhawks responded with a much a stronger team showing in the second quarter, as they put up 23 points spread from 6 different players. After the half, the Riverhawks had put themselves back on top, and headed into the locker room leading by 5 (36-31).
Autumn Foster-Fields (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) would continue the aggressive attack for the Riverhawks as she opened-up her scoring by netting 13 points for AACC in the 3rd quarter. Shooting well beyond their opponents, the Riverhawks shot 58% from the floor and 75% from the 3-point line to contribute to their 31 point 3rd quarter, while holding the Black Bears to just 16 points. With just the fourth quarter remaining, the Riverhawks were ahead by 20 (67-47).
Finishing what they started, AACC would continue through the 4th quarter with 19 points to Penn Highlands' 16, and earn the Region XX match-up victory, 86-63.
Foster-Fields would finish as AACC's leading scorer with 26 points and 7 rebounds on the night. Riverhawks Daja Burnett (Arnold, MD/Severna Park) and Jordan Graham (Severn,MD/Old Mill) would each earn a double-double on the night, Burnett scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, and Graham scoring 13 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) would also break double-digits on the night, scoring her season high, with 13 points.
The Riverhawks next match-up will be this Wednesday (12/13) as they travel to Frederick, Maryland to face the NJCAA DII Region XX Cougars of Frederick Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm at the Frederick campus.
