Game Notes

Westmoreland County Community College played host to their annual Tip-Off Classic Basketball Tournament this past weekend (11/10-11/11); with the Riverhawks facing two of the four total teams entered – Lorain County Community College on Friday, and Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday.

Game 1: Facing the Region XII Commodores of LCCC for their first match-up, the Riverhawks jumped out early and grabbed a 16-11 lead after the first quarter of play. Yet struggling to maintain that pace through the second, Lorrain County would capitalize by outscoring AACC (15-9) and earning them the lead 26-25 at the half.

Responding with an explosive second half of 26 points in the third and 19 points in the fourth, the Riverhawks would finish the game at 70 points while holding the Commodores to 57 – earning them the first win of the tournament.

Autumn Foster-Fields (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) would lead for AACC with her double double of 10 rebounds and 25 points on the day, shooting 100% (3-3) at the FT line, and 11-22 on the floor. Jordan Graham (Severn, MD/Old Mill), Hannah Lieb (Annapoils, MD), and Daja Burnett (Arnold, MD/Severna Park) would all finish in the double-digits for the day as well with 13, 12, and 11 points respectively.

Game 2: Day two had AACC facing the host Wolfpack of WCCC, and in similar fashion to day 1, the Riverhawks jumped out with an aggressive lead after the first quarter – this time leading 24-10. Responding in full force, the Wolfpack would put up 26 points in the second quarter while holding the Riverhawks to 13. AACC would head into the locker-room at half with just a 1-point lead over Westmoreland at, 37-36.

The Riverhawks would struggle to find that rhythm exhibited in the 1st quarter of the game – permitting the Wolfpack to outscore them 22-19 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth quarter. Unable to overcome Westmoreland's persistent scoring through the second half, and unable to finish shots – the Riverhawks would fall, 76-64, to the Wolfpack.

The team shot 26-58 from the floor, 4-8 at the FT line, and 8-15 from beyond the arc in their loss. Foster-Fields would once again lead AACC with 24 points, followed by Burnett with 16 points, and Graham with 14 points.

For their exceptional tournament performance, Fields and Burnett were awarded All-Tournament Team honors.
