Riverhawk Homeruns Give Win in Double Header Split

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's Riverhawk softball team showed great persistence yesterday afternoon to split a double-header against NJCAA DII Region 20 Allegany College of Maryland. The conference win puts the Riverhawks 10-11 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.

After a strong showing on Sunday the Riverhawks didn't start out quite the same on Monday afternoon – struggling a bit on the mound and starting slow at bat for game 1. By the top of the 4th, the Riverhawks were down 19-1.

Able to gain a bit of momentum AACC scored 6 in the bottom of the 5th but the lead by the Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland proved to be too much who ultimately claimed game 1 after 5 innings, 22-7.

Gabrielle Bobel went 2-3 with 2 runs in game 1, Hope Micallef 2-3 with 1 run, Jenna Weinstein was 1-3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs, with Brittany Lowe, Alyssa Thompson, and Shannon Martin also scoring for the Riverhawks.

Game 2 started just as strong for Allegany who scored 4 quick runs in the top of the 1st but the Riverhawks showed no sign of giving up and preceded to play aggressively.

After getting some hits and putting players on base, Weinstein was able to use her speed to score after a wild pitch. Following up would be Martin who would drive 2 more home with her hit and after a double by Logan Endley-Abbott, the Riverhawks found themselves leading 6-4 after the 1st.

The relentless Riverhawks continued with their strong bats with Kaitlyn Nutwell earning her first homerun of the season (scoring 2) which would be followed up not too long after by a 3-run homer hit by Endley-Abbott. With the addition of wholesome field play, the Riverhawks were able to end the day on a positive note – winning game 2 after 5 innings, 13-5.

Nutwell would end game two, 3-4 with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, and a 2 run homer, and Endley-Abbott went 3-3 with 2 runs, 5 RBIs, and a 3-run homer.

The Riverhawks will have Tuesday off before traveling for another conference match up on Wednesday (April 5th) vs. the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville. It will be a double-header starting at 3:00 p.m.
