ARNOLD, MD – Fans were given quite a show this past Saturday as the Riverhawks took on the Runners of Rowan College at Gloucester County for an exciting double-header event.
Game one ended in a 19-14 ITB (International Tie Breaker) in favor of the Runners after eight innings.
Nicole Cox racked up four RBIs on four hits for the Riverhawks, singled in the third inning, homered in the sixth inning, and doubled in the fourth and seventh innings.
The Riverhawks scored five runs in the third, scored on a two-run single by Cox, a two-run single by Andrea Jones, and a RBI single by Christine Longbottom. AACC continued to match scores with Rowan throughout the contest but the Runners pushed across one run in both the fifth inning and the seventh.
The Riverhawks survived Rowan College at Gloucester County's surge and put up one run of its own in the seventh, scored on an RBI single by London Miller to force an ITB tie breaker.
RCGC added five runs during the ITB play while the Riverhawks were unable to score.
Amanda Dirks contributed 3 hits and scored 3 runs for the Riverhawks.
Game two continued the high-scoring affair for the day as the Riverhawks earned the 14-11 win over the Runners.
The teams posted 27 hits between them, as well as 11 for extra bases
AACC scored eight runs in the third, scoring on a RBI single by London Miller, a grand slam home run by Andrea Jones, a RBI single by Molly Brown, a RBI double by Kayla Herrell, and a RBI double by Nicole Cox.
Seven runs in the top of the fifth helped Rowan College at Gloucester County close its deficit to 14-8. After pushing across three runs in the top of the seventh, the Runners faced just a 14-11 deficit but Cox and the Riverhawks were able to close the game out and win the second game of a thrilling doubleheader.
"The offense continues to improve, and Molly Brown was stout in left field. She made several key plays." Stated co-coach Guy Klingensmith.
"The offense has progressed each game and today we were able to drive in runs with runners in scoring position." Stated co-coach Brittany Biermann.
The Riverhawks completed their first two weeks of a difficult schedule with a 3-5 record.
