Top Seed Howard Stops Men's Soccer, 3-2

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team scored twice in a two minute span in the second half to take the lead, but saw it slip away as the Riverhawks fell to top seeded Howard Community College in the NJCAA Region XX semifinals Friday afternoon.

Angel Calderon and Asende Mmandama potted back-to-back goals for AACC, which was trailing, 1-0, at the time. Calderon found a loose ball and sent it past Howard goalkeeper in the 64th minute to knot the game at 1-all. Mmandama followed in the 66th minute by powering in a rebound at the post.

Alexander Estrada knotted the game back up for Howard in the 70th minute and Anderson Marroquin edged the Dragons ahead in the 78th minute.

Shortly after Howard took the lead, AACC goalkeeper Brenden LeMaster deftly turned aside a penalty kick attempt from Marroquin and pushed the momentum in favor of the Riverhawks.

It looked like AACC had tied the game in the 86th minute as the Riverhawks stormed up the field and put the ball in the back of the net. Instead, the play was whistled as offside.

LeMaster finished with six saves for the Riverhawks, while his counterpart, Seiba Rizk, made one stop in the win.

AACC wraps up the year with a 9-7-1 record after advancing to the Region XX semifinals for the fourth time in the last five years.
