Game Notes

The Riverhawk men's soccer team turned heads this past Tuesday night (10/17), forcing an overtime battle against the Conference powerhouse Raptors of Montgomery College. Playing at home, the Riverhawks went toe-toe with the visiting Raptors, who were 16-2 (8-0 in the conference) entering the match.

The first goal of the match would start with Peter Roberts (Pasadena, MD/Archbishop Spalding) finding teammate Alexander Calogero (Davidsonville, MD/South River) set up 10 yards out in front of the net, blasting a shot past Raptor goalkeeper. Despite some early missed opportunities on net, Montgomery were eventually able to get one past Riverhawk goalkeeper Austin Noland (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) leading the two teams into halftime tied, 1-1.

Montgomery would come out in the second half and take the lead briefly, but a perfect ball from Ryan Owens (Glen Burnie, MD/North County) would allow Noah Beall (Odenton, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) to tie the match back up. With tensions high, a Raptor foul inside the box would allow Beall the opportunity for a penalty kick. Successful in his attempt, the Riverhawks would take a 3-2 lead but leaving little time for celebration, Montgomery would look to shut down any AACC momentum with the equalizer goal just minutes later. The score would remain tied, 3-3, as time expired – sending the game into overtime.

Marking their third match in OT of the season, the Riverhawks were looking to triumph against their nationally ranked opponents during the "golden goal" 10-minute period. Unfortunately, the Montgomery Raptors would jump out on AACC and claim the victory – scoring just one-minute in. It was an unlucky finish for AACC, but a well-played match to be proud of.
