Game Notes

The Riverhawk men's soccer team dropped, 4-3, in double overtime this past Tuesday evening (10/9) against the NJCAA DI Region XX Hawks of Hagerstown Community College. Playing at home, the Riverhawks had to fight to answer back as the Hawks would jump out with the early lead.

AACC would find themselves down two after the 14th minute of play with some perfectly placed HCC shots up and over Riverhawk goalkeeper Austin Noland (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie). Scoreless after the first half, despite their 4 shots, the Riverhawks would head into intermission down, 2-0.

Refusing to give-up, the Riverhawks continued to push and as Noland and the defense held the Hawks at two goals, AACC would finally respond at the 70th minute, as Noah Beall (Odenton, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) would finish off an assist from Peter Roberts (Pasadena, MD/Archbishop Spalding). Now gaining momentum, Roberts would score the equalizer goal at the 76th minute to put the match at two a piece.

Just seconds after Roberts' goal, Enzo Larrosa (Odenton, MD/Arundel) would keep the Riverhawk celebrations going, beating his defender in front of the net and finishing past the Hawks' goalkeeper. With tensions high and AACC ahead 3-2, an unfortunate Riverhawk foul inside the box would give the Hawks a PK and a chance to tie the match. Successful in their PK attempt, the Hawks would tie the match at 3 before the time expired, sending the teams into overtime.

Back and forth play with just one shot produced (AACC), the score would remain unchanged after the first overtime, forcing the two teams to intermission once again as they would prepare for double overtime. Wasting very little time, Hagerstown would score the deciding goal within the first minute of the double over time period, awarding them the 4-3 victory.
