Game Notes

The Riverhawks were faced with a tough NJCAA DI Region XX matchup this Tuesday evening (9/26) – facing the Knights of CCBC Essex. The Knights earned their 7th straight win with the 4-3 final over the Riverhawks.

AACC's Ryan Gruss (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) would be the first to the find the net with an exceptionally well-placed shot chipped overtop of the goal keepers' hands and into the back of the net.

Just 4 minutes after Gruss had scored, the Knights responded with a goal to tie the game, 1-1, and then another to grab the lead, 2-1. The three goals and lead changes would occur all within just a short 6-minute window. The Knights would hold onto their 2-1 lead as the first half ended.

Noah Beall (Odenton, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) would tie the game up, 2-2, at the 55th minute, but once again the Knights would respond and reclaim the lead. With time running short, Zachary Roberts (Pasadena, MD/Archbishop Spalding) would drill the back of the net off a perfectly placed assist from Beall, tying the match, 3-3, with just under 5 minutes remaining.

Delivering a heart-breaking blow, the Knights were able to slide another goal past AACC goalkeeper Austin Noland (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie), grabbing a 4-3 lead with just under a minute remaining. Mark Woodard (Hanover, MD/Meade) would manage to get one last shot off for AACC but would fail to find the net.

Up Next

Next on the schedule for the Riverhawks is another NJCAA DI Region XX opponent – the Hawks of Hagerstown Community College. The Hawks are currently 6-3-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in the conference proving this should be another well-contested match-up for AACC.
