Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Delaware Tech

ARNOLD, MD – Mark Kelm scored just six seconds into the game and the Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team never looked back as the Riverhawks defeated visiting Delaware Tech, 28-3, Tuesday evening at Siegert Field. AACC saw 13 different players score as the Riverhawks posted their highest scoring game since February 2020.

AACC (1-1) dominated from the start, using Kelm's opener to spark a 9-0 spree. The Riverhawks outscored Delaware Tech (1-4), 7-2 in the second quarter, using the latter portion of the stanza as part of a 17-0 run through the midpoint of the fourth quarter. The Hawks got one back in the final frame, while AACC countered with two scores.

John Thibodeau led the Riverhawks with five goals and two assists, while Mike Renzi added five goals and an assist. Sam Weisshaar proved the Riverhawks' top play maker with five assists to go with four goals. Francis O'Hara scored twice and added three assists, while Sam Barrett scored two goals and had an assist. Nick Barton and Patrick McGinley both had two-goal outings. Not to be outdone, three defenders got in on the offense as Brandon Grusholt, Mike Rogers, and Niles Tinsley each found the back of the net.

Kelm was stellar at the faceoff x, going 14-for-17 with eight groundballs. Bobby Ruel went 10-for-18 with seven groundballs. Overall AACC led the groundball battle, 35-21.

Griffin Tucker earned the win with one save in the first half. Connor Westervelt did not face a shot in the third, and Kolby Hood made one save in the final quarter.

The Riverhawks' transition game was solid with a 14-of-16 clear performance, with the ride holding Delaware Tech to a 7-of-25 clearing effort, including inducing four 20-second clock violations.

AACC caused a season-high 17 of Delaware Tech's 35 turnovers, while committing just 18 of their own.
