Game Notes

The Riverhawk men's lacrosse team picked up their first conference win this Saturday afternoon (3/24), defeating long-time rival Knights of CCBC Essex, 11-7.

Face-off specialist Nicholas Karnes (Catharine, VA/Battlefield) has be reliable all season for AACC and jump-started the MD JUCO match-up by winning the first face-off. After a couple up and downs by both teams, William Dion (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) would put the Riverhawks on the board and claim the lead over the Knights.

Trading goals through the first 13 minutes of play, Jordan Kopf (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) would find the back of the net to claim the lead once again for the Riverhawks just as Dion would sneak one more in to put AACC up 2 (4-2) as first quarter action expired.

Spectators were given quite the showdown over the next few quartes of play, as each team would continue to push on offense and stay aggressive on defense. Capitalizing on the man-up opportunities in the second quarter, Stephen Moheiser (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and Zachary Gussman (Lake Mary, FL/Lake Mary) each would add goals for the Riverhawks, as the defense would keep the Knights to just 1.

As the game came down to the last 15 minutes of play of the 4th quarter, the Riverhawks had just a two-goal lead (7-5) over the Knights. Winning another face-off for AACC, Karnes would solo a goal off the first whistle and possession – putting the Riverhawks up by 3. Later on and refusing to give up, Essex would bury two more on top of a previous goal and make it a 1-point game (9-8) in favor of AACC with just under 5 minutes remaining.

Maintaining their composure to finish out the game, the Riverhawks were able to finish twice more to secure their 11-7 conference victory over the Knights of CCBC Essex.
