Riverhawks Headed to National Tournament After Region Championship Win

              APOLLO, PA - The Riverhawk men's golf team placed 1st in the NJCAA DIII Region XX Golf Championship match this past week (5/13). Hosted by CCAC Boyce, the match was played at the Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. Golfers in attendance were from AACC, CCAC Boyce, Westmoreland County CC, Butler County CC, and Garrett College.

              Ryan Brophy (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) would finish as leader for the Riverhawks shooting an impressive 75 for each round of the tournament. Brophy's commendable score would finish him 2nd overall individually just one stroke behind the leader, earning him a spot on the All-Region tournament team. Jonathan Reeder (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) would shoot a 78 on day one followed by a 79 on day two, finishing him second for the Riverhawks. Behind Reeder was Michael Weller (Edgewater, MD/South River) who shot an 87 on day one and then turned it around to shoot a 78 on day two. Next would be Brian Morusiewicz (Owings, MD/Archbishop Spalding) shooting 83 & 88, followed by Justin Sodeman (Bowie, MD/St. Mary's) shooting 88 & 90.

Up Next

              With the win, the Riverhawks will advance to the 2018 NJCAA DIII National Tournament hosted by Jamestown Community College. Match play will consist of four rounds held at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. The tournament is scheduled for June 5th – 8th so be sure to check back for round results and updates.
