Riverhawks Finish 8th at Nationals

CHAUTAUQUA, NY – Anne Arundel Community College's Riverhawk men's golf team finished in eighth place at the 2017 NJCAA DIII National Championship this past week. The four-round tournament was held at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY on June 6-9.

 

Day One, Round One:

 

The Riverhawks opened up the tournament with a respectable score of 322, putting them in sixth place out of the thirteen teams who entered.  Leading for the Riverhawks was Joshua Maisel, who shot a 75 on the day – placing him tied for seventh (out of ninety) for individual rankings. Jonathan Reeder shot a 79, Michael Reeder shot an 83, Brett Puhl shot an 85, and Alex Booth shot a 94.

 

Day Two, Round Two:

 

Although Mike Reeder and Booth were able to take a few strokes off their scores for day two, it proved to be a more difficult day for the Riverhawks. After a team total of 334 for the round, the Riverhawks had dropped two spots, placing the team in eighth place.  Mike Reeder would be low man of the day, shooting 80, with Jon Reeder shooting 81, Maisel shooting 84, Booth shooting 89, and Puhl shooting 93.

 

Day Three, Round Three:

 

Looking to turn it around after a tough day two, the Riverhawks would shoot their lowest team total of the tournament on day three, placing them tied for seventh overall. For day three, Maisel shot a 75, Jon Reeder with a 79, Puhl (82), Mike Reeder (83), and Booth (99).

 

Maisel's 75 for round three would get him back up in individual rankings – tied for fourteenth.

 

Day Four, Final Round:

 

The Riverhawks finished the tournament with another respectable team total 322 (matching their score of day 1) placing them 8th overall.  Puhl shot a 79, Jon Reeder (81), Mike Reeder (86), and Booth (96).

 

Maisel's 76 for round four placed him 12th overall for individual rankings, earning him the 12th hole flag to take home.

 

Placing 8th was a great team finish for the Riverhawks, after winning the Region XX Championship prior to making the trip to Nationals, it was a commendable way to conclude their season.
