Riverhawks Win Region XX Championship, Headed for Nationals

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawk golf team took home the 2017 NJCAA Region XX DIII Championship title yesterday afternoon. Placing first, the Riverhawks defeated runner-ups Butler County Community College and third place finishers, Westmoreland County Community College.

 

In addition to placing 1st as a team, the Riverhawks had three golfers placing in the top 5. Joshua Maisel placed 1st (81/75 – 156), Brett Puhl placed 4th (83/83 – 166), and Michael Reeder placed 5th (85/84 – 169). Jonathan Reeder finished tied for 6th (95/79 – 174) and finishing up for AACC was Alex Booth (99/103 – 202).

 

The top five finishers would also be considered the 2017 Region XX All-Tournament team.

(5) Mike Reeder – AACC

 

The two-day tournament had golfers in some inclement weather for round one but nevertheless they powered through. Adding to his endeavors, Maisel's score of 75 for the second round was the lowest score for the tournament by 4 strokes.

 

With the win, the team is scheduled to compete at the 2017 NJCAA DIII Men's Golf Championship. The championship will be hosted at the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, NY. The four competition rounds will take place June 6-9.
