Allegany Holds Off Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, MD – Visiting Allegany College of Maryland slipped past the Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team Wednesday afternoon, 92-79. AACC freshman Jamar Young led all players with 27 points, a career-high.

Davon Jones produced his second-consecutive 25-point performance, adding seven rebounds and three blocks. Joseph Chase recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds (9 defensive). Keith Wyatt had a stellar defensive night with three steals and a block to go with four assists.

There were six lead changes before the 10-minute mark of the first half, with neither team leading by more than four until an 8-2 swing gave Allegany a five-point lead with just under nine to play. AACC kept it as close as five points, but Allegany held the Riverhawks to three points over the final three minutes en route to a 46-34 halftime lead.

A free throw from Young with under five to play sparked the Riverhawks' offense as they sank back-to-back layups to cut the Trojans' lead to five, 76-71. Allegany held the Riverhawks to just eight points over the remainder of the game to hang on for the win.

Allegany outscored AACC in the paint, 44-34, and used a benefitted from a solid bench effort of 24 points.

AACC continues its three-game homestand against CCAC at 7 pm Friday.
