Dundalk Tops Men's Basketball in 2020 Opener

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team dropped a 97-82 game to visiting CCBC Dundalk Saturday in MDJUCO action. Freshman Davon Jones scored a career-high 25 points to lead AACC.

Jones added a team-high seven rebounds in the game to go with a pair of steals and an assist. Braeden Cavey scored 14 points in his first start, adding seven boards and an assist. Joseph Chase also finished in double digits with 10 points. Aaron McGriff scored nine points to go with three rebounds and eight assists.

Cavey wasted no time in his first career start, scoring the first five points for AACC on a trademark three-pointer and a pair of free throws. The teams traded leads back and forth throughout the first half, seeing Dundalk leading by no more than six.

Michael Sullivan sank three free throws with 6:43 remaining to bring AACC back within three at 32-29 before Chase nailed a three-pointer to tie it up 30 seconds later. Chase followed with a jumper to put AACC back up by two, but the Lions used a 14-2 run to take the lead for good.

Jones capped the half with a huge exclamation point by knocking down a pass before going in for an emphatic dunk as time expired, but Dundalk carried a 51-41 lead into the break.

AACC twice cut the lead to as little as nine in the second half, but Dundalk cruised to the final 97-82 win.

Dundalk shot 56.1% from the floor in the win, and held a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint. The Lions' bench outscored their hosts at a 36-20 clip.

AACC has a busy week coming up with three home games beginning with a 3pm game against Allegany Wednesday, January 8. The Riverhawks host CCAC Friday, January 10 at 7 pm and Harford CC Saturday at 3 pm.
