Game Notes

The Riverhawks started the New Year with a nice Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) win this past Sunday (1/6), defeating the NJCAA DII Region XX Lakers of Garrett College, 76-65. Part of a double-header following the women's match-up, the game took place in the Jenkins Gymnasium at the Anne Arundel Community College campus in Arnold, MD.

First to score off the opening tip-off, Dayvon Cuffey (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) and the Riverhawks would work to hold their lead throughout the first half. The two teams would battle back and forth with AACC consistently holding the slight advantage. At the half, the Riverhawks were ahead by 6 points (40-34). Cuffey would finish the first half with 16 points and Jacoby Rojas (San Angelo, TX/Northeast) with 7 points.

Out of the locker room and picking up where they left off, the two teams would remain within reach of each other but with the Riverhawks slightly ahead. AACC would tighten up play a bit to earn their largest lead of the game at 12 points over the Lakers, minutes into the second half. Battling for the conference win, the Riverhawks maintained their composure as the Lakers worked at their comeback. Without giving up the lead once, AACC would ultimately earn the win, 76-65, over the Lakers of Garrett College.

Cuffey would finish with an impressive 32 points and 6 rebounds on the night as he continues to stay among the top of the MD JUCO leader boards – ranked 2nd for field goal percentage (62), 3rd for points per game (20.4), and 5th for rebounds per game. Rojas would finish with 17 points and 8 rebounds as he breaks into the top five in the conference for his 3-point percentage (45.8). Deondre McNeill (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) and Clinton Smith (Old Mill/Glen Burnie, MD) would each finish with 8 points on the night with 12 rebounds credited to McNeill.
