Game Notes

The Riverhawks took down the undefeated Raptors of Montgomery college, 66-56, this past Tuesday night (11/20). The NJCAA DIII Region XX match-up was hosted by the Raptors at the Montgomery College campus in Rockville, MD. The win marks the second consecutive road win for the Riverhawks, defeating the Cougars of CCAC Allegheny, 70-62, this past Saturday (11/17).

Despite the early lead by the Raptors, AACC steadily fought their way back and claimed the lead themselves, 31-29 at half. Jacoby Rojas (San Angelo, TX/Northeast) and Dayvon Cuffey (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) would lead the Riverhawks with 11 and 10 points respectively at the break. As the team only had 1 three-point bucket posted (1-9), 15-36 from the field, and 0-3 at the free-throw, the Riverhawks would look to come out stronger in the second half to maintain their lead and secure a win.

Montgomery would stay within range of the Riverhawks' slight advantage before finishing on a lay-up off the steal to grab the lead (46-45) with just ten minutes remaining. The teams would trade-off the lead as time continued to wind down, with Rojas, Cuffey, and Dayonte Barnes (Baltimore, MD/Old Mill) each finishing from the floor. Clinton Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) would finish a short pull-up jumper at the 5-minute mark that would ignite the Riverhawks to pull away and hold off the Raptors. As Montgomery was forced to foul to stop the clock, AACC would finish at the line and earn the victory, 66-56.

Rojas would earn his first double double of the season with his 24 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Cuffey posted his third double double on the season, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Deondre McNeill (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds on the night and Barnes had 8 points.
