Game Notes

Facing the NJCAA DI Region XX Trojans from Allegany College of Maryland last night (1/24), the Riverhawks put up a fight but ultimately dropped, 99-84, to the 25th ranked team in the nation.

Within seconds of the opening drive, the Trojans made their presence known with a deep 3 pointer to claim the early lead. Prooving their range extends way beyond the arc and are capable of throwing down a dunk, the Riverhawks quickly realized the Trojans possessed a major offensive force. Responding well to the adversity, Terry Kenner (Glenn Dale, MD/DuVal) often found the reliable Jacoby Rojas (San Angelo, TX/Northeast) as the Riverhawks worked to keep the Trojans within a close reach.

As Allegany continued to finish on shots, they found themselves with a fourteen point lead with just 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Refusing to give up, the Riverhawks were able to push the fast break themselves and net a few buckets to cut the lead down to 9 as they headed into the locker room at half time with the score 49-40.

Despite the Riverhawks shooting 18-35 from the floor (to Allegany's 18-38) the Trojans buried eight 3-pointers to AACC's 1. Rojas and Kenner finished with 13 points (Rojas) and 10 points (Kenner) for the 20 minutes of fast-paced play.

The second half was an unfortunate continuation for the Riverhawks, as sloppy turnovers followed by consistent scoring from the Trojans, left them falling further back at a steady rate. Burying seven more 3 pointers within the second, the Trojans found their largest lead at 24 points (73-49) over the Riverhawks.

Battling to end, the Riverhawks were unable to catch the Trojans – losing 99-84. Rojas recorded his 5th double double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kenner also grabbed a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Miles Dobson (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills) finished with 13 points, and coming off the bench - Damir Mahmutagic (Tisanj, Bosnia/Bowie) recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals on the night.

Up Next

Next up for the Riverhawks will be a tough match-up against the 14-6 (9-1 within the conference) Fighting Owls of Harford Community College this Friday night (1/26). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Jenkins Gymnasium at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD.
