Game Notes

Hosting the no. 5 ranked team in the nation, Davidson County Community College, this Saturday afternoon (12/02), the Riverhawks came up with a big, 97-89, win over the Region X Storm.

The Storm of Davidson would start the game off by finishing on a quick pull-up 3-point bucket after a steal to put the first points on the board and would find themselves up 8-2 after the first few minutes. Closing the gap would be Terry Kenner (Glenn Dale, MD/DuVal), Miles Dobson (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills), and Jacoby Rojas (San Angelo, TX/Northeast) all finishing their shots to tie the game at 8.

From then on, each team would battle for the lead until the game was once again tied at 16 a piece, halfway through the first half. Chipping away, AACC really began to take advantage of Davidson's hard press by finding open players down court for the easy, fast break lay-up.

With less than 5 minutes remaining in the half, the Riverhawks had pulled ahead with a 10-point lead, with the score 35-25. Davidson County would work to close the gap, but as each team headed into the locker room AACC would remain ahead by 8 (49-41) at the end of the first half.

Leading for the Riverhawks was Terry Kenner with his 16 points and 5 assists. Kenner was 6-8 from the floor, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 at the free-throw line after the first 20 minutes.

Second half action would continue in similar fashion, Davidson pressing on defense but AACC finding the open cutter down court for the easy bucket. With just under 9 minutes remaining in the game, the Riverhawks found their largest lead of the game at 19 points ahead of the no. 5 nationally ranked Storm.

Despite closing the nineteen deficit down to 8, time had run out for the Storm of Davidson County and the Riverhawks would earn the win, 97-89.

For AACC, Terry Kenner would finish with 24 pts and 7 assists on the day, Damir Mahmutagic (Tisanj, Bosnia/Bowie) would finish with 19 pts and 6 assists, Miles Dobson would finish with 18 pts, and Clinton Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) would earn another double-double, his 3rd of the season, with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
