Game Notes

The Riverhawks fell, 89-80, to the NJCAA DII Region XX Titans of the Community College of Beaver County earlier this evening (11/21) held in the Jenkins Gymnasium of Anne Arundel Community College.

The first half of the Region XX match-up began slowly for each side – trading possession up and down the court with little scoring. After the first 4 minutes the game was tied up at only 6 a piece.

Buckets would start to drop, and the Titans would slowly take the edge before increasing their lead to 15 points with just two minutes remaining in the half. A few jump shots would help keep the Riverhawks within fighting distance but they were no match for the 3-pt performance of the Titans; who shot 7-13 from beyond the arc in the first half.

Heading into the locker room, Riverhawks would trail 45-31 to the Titans of Beaver County. Leading the way for AACC was Terry Kenner (Glenn Dale, MD/DuVal) with 13 points.

Looking to climb their way back on top in the second half, the Riverhawks pressured the Titans on the inbound, limited turnovers, and capitalized at the free throw line. With an exuberant push by the Riverhawks, the Titans who once lead by 19 points had found themselves ahead by just 3 points with 1:46 left in the game.

With the dwindling clock working against them, AACC would be forced to foul, in which the Titans would capitalize on; shooting 15-20 at the line. Despite their great effort, AACC would fail to take back the lead from Beaver County who would earn the 89-80 victory.

Leading for the Riverhawks would be Damir Mahmutagic (Tisanj, Bosnia/Bowie) coming off the bench and finishing with 22 points on the night – shooting 7-13 on the floor, 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 6-7 at the free throw line. Kenner would finish behind Mahmutagic with 20 points, while dishing out 6 assists and grabbing 8 steals. Despite running into a bit of foul trouble tonight, Clinton Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) would still finish with 13 points on the night, shooting 5-6 on the floor, and 3-4 from beyond the arc.
