Game Notes

The Riverhawk men's basketball team would officially start their 2017-18 season in Youngwood, PA this past weekend (11/10-11/11) while competing in Westmoreland County Community College's annual Tip-Off Classic Basketball Tournament. AACC was set to face Lorain County Community College on Friday, and Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday.

Game 1: AACC would start out with a bit of a struggle for their season debut, trailing 44-25 to the Region XII Commodores of LCCC, after the first half. Despite improved scoring efforts in the second half (38 points), the Riverhawks were just unable to slow down the Commodores and would ultimately lose, 91-63.

Although almost perfect from the free throw line (10-11), AACC shot just 25-59 from the field, and 3-10 from beyond the arc.

Jacoby Rojas (San Angelo, TX/Northeast) would lead for AACC with his double double of 10 rebounds and 19 points on the day, followed by Terry Kenner (Glenn Dale,MD/DuVal) with 15 points, Keith Wyatt (Upper Marlboro, MD/Griggs International Academy) with 12 points and Clinton Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) with 10 points.

Game 2: Looking for their first win of the season, the Riverhawks came out firing on day 2 of the tournament – facing the Wolfpack of Westmoreland County Community College.  Scoring more forcefully than the previous day, AACC earned a 48-43 lead over the Wolfpack after the first half. Battling back and forth, AACC was able to maintain the lead but the Wolfpack were able to overcome their deficit and best the Riverhawks in the remaining seconds to claim the victory by 1 point; 94-93.

Clinton Smith and Jacoby Rojas each picked up a double double in the 1-point loss, as Smith posted 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Rojas had 17 points and 15 rebounds. Kenner netted 23 points for day two, and Damir Mahmutagic (Tisanj, Bosnia/Bowie) also broke into double digits, scoring 12 points.
