Another Men’s Basketball Win decided in Final Seconds

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's men's basketball team hosted their last home game of the season Wednesday night, facing NJCAA DII Hawks from the College of Southern Maryland. The Riverhawks claimed the, 89-88, win in the remaining seconds of the contest, putting them at 6-15 on the season and 3-11 in the conference.

Inbounding the ball with just 24 seconds remaining in the game, the Riverhawks had fought back from a thirteen-point deficit – now trailing by a single point. With some quick offensive moves to draw a defender, Larry Stevenson (Charleston, SC/Sigonella) found teammate Christian Thomas (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) who pulled up for a deep jumper just inside the three-point line. Thomas netted the basket, giving the Riverhawks the lead and with a missed last-attempt heave, the Hawks from the College Of Southern Maryland fell to AACC with the final score of 89-88.

It was quite a performance for Thomas that night; along with the winning jump shot, he finished with a season high 22 points, went 2-2 from beyond the arc, and drained both free throws attempted. Anthony Frazier (Washington, DC/Arundel) was also a major part of the Riverhawk offense, leading the team with 24 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and shooting 10-11 on the floor while hitting 4-5 three pointers.

Marcus Dentley (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) earned his 5th double double of the season netting 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Stevenson also finished in the double digits with 12 points on the night and dishing out 6 assists.

The Riverhawks will travel to the Naval Academy campus on Sunday February 12th for their final game of the season, facing the men's JV team. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
