Riverhawks Lose in OT to Cardinals

Riverhawks Lose in OT to Cardinals

ARNOLD, MD – The Wednesday night men's bout exhibited both teams looking to push the court.  After trading fast breaks and capitalizing scoring opportunities off turnovers, the two teams found themselves with only a one-point differential, 43-42, in favor of CCBC Catonsville at the end of the first half.

The Cardinals led out the second half with a steady scoring pattern with the Riverhawks trailing close behind. With a combination of finishing shots, and grabbing key offensive and defensive rebounds the Riverhawks found themselves in a tied-up game, 60-60, with 10 minutes remaining.

The trio of Walter Tolliver, Larry Stevenson, and Anthony Frazier then brought the Riverhawks to a seven-point lead; draining baskets from beyond the arc and finishing at the free throw line. Netting a deep three-pointer and following up with two free throw baskets, Marcus Dentley extended the Riverhawk lead to twelve points over the Cardinals with just 4 minutes remaining.

Relentless in their attack, and exploiting Riverhawk mistakes, the Cardinals found themselves down just two points with less than a minute remaining. Fighting for a loose ball in the remaining seconds, a crucial foul called against Miles Dobson put CCBC Catonsville sophomore Ke'Andre Gibson on the line.  After draining both shots, the Cardinals had tied the game, 83-83, which ultimately sent the teams into overtime.

With the loss of starters due to fouls, the Riverhawks were just unable to turn the momentum back in their favor. The Cardinals finished on their free throws and finished off the Riverhawks in overtime, winning 95-90.
